Lemon Squares

I first saw this quilt on Fresh Lemons Modern Quilts and fell in love with it--she had it on her blog as a free pattern!  To view the original quilt or download the pattern click here  It took me a few months to gather the coordinating fabric from this line from Lakehouse Prints.  I searched quilt shops in Michigan, Utah, and Arizona.  I finally had it all--or so I thought.  I began cutting all the pieces and there was a lot of cutting to do.  I had half of them cut and sitting in a cute little shopping bag on the floor in the laundry room.  My husband had poured water into the iron to use it and left the water bottle on the counter without capping it tightly.  Some of it spilled into the bag of fabric and got it wet.  Genius me thought I could dry it on low in the dryer and not shrink the fabric--wrong!  The pieces all shrunk almost 1/4" and therefore didn't fit with the other ones that weren't in the bag.  This is a definite no-no in quilting.  So, I had to cut the rest of the pieces smaller to match the ones that shrunk.  Then, I ran out of the green polka-dot fabric to bind the quilt with.  I couldn't believe it.  I was off on another search to find more of it, or at least something that matched it.  Finally, in October, I found another coordinating print in a quilt shop in Utah that would work.  It was a rick-rack print, but the stripes ran the length of the fabric, not the width (like usual).  So, I had to cut at least twelve strips instead of six and sew them all together being careful to match the color repeat--what a job.  I was "bound" and determine to get this quilt done.   Finally, after five hours of hand sewing the binding on the back--I finished it!  So, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Street of Flowers

This is called "Rue de Fleurs" which means street of flowers in French.  It has eight different vintage-looking images including this umbrella.  I stamped it on a 3" Very Vanilla circle in Basic Gray and colored parts of it with Riding Hood Red, Baja Breeze, Pear Pizzazz, and Blushing Bride markers to coordinate with the Twitterpated DSP I used as the background.   I made the Top Note Die in Riding Hood Red and added polka dots using the Perfect Polka Dot Embossing Folder.  Last, I added a 3/8" Pleated Satin Ribbon and a Twitterpated Designer Button (both new).  My stamping buddy Kathy (from Ohio) and I designed this card together.  It sure is more fun to have a friend to stamp with!

You're My Type

This is my favorite set from the new Occasions Mini Catalog.  It's called "You're My Type" and contains a typewriter and six different sentiments to stamp on the little sheet of paper.  I stamped it in Soft Suede and brushed the edges of the sheet with a sponge.  I mounted that on a piece of Pool Party card stock that I ran through the Big Shot using the Vintage Wallpaper Embossing Folder.  The background paper is from "Attic Boutique" and is mounted on a Daffodil Delight card.  I used the Adorning Accents Edgelit Die and Embossing Folder to create the embossed and cut scalloped edge at the bottom.  I also added a little flower punched out with the Boho Blossoms punch with Soft Suede brad and a 1/8" Daffodil Delight ribbon.  We are definitely making this one at the FH class on Saturday!

Mixed Bunch

This pretty DSP paper is from "Twitterpated" and was mounted it on a Blushing Bride card.  I cut the paper in this curvy shape using the Edgelit Die and made the coordinating embossed line with the Adorning Accents Embossing Folder.  The Island Indigo flowers were stamped with the "Mixed Bunch" set and punched out with the coordinating Blossom Punch.  (All of these are from the new Occasions Mini Catalog.)  I stamped the center flower with the Triple Treat Flower single stamp and punched that out with the 5-Petal Flower Punch.  Last, I added a Soft Subtles Flower Brad and popped up the whole flower with a Dimensional.  I decided to not add words this time so I could use the card for any occasion.

Sweet Cake

This adorable new set, "Sweet Cake",  is from the Occasions Mini (clink the link on the right to view the catalog) which started this week.  It includes a cupcake image and three interchangeable sentiments to stamp in the rectangle.  I stamped it in Soft Suede and the words are done in Pool Party.  I ran the Calypso Coral card stock through the Big Shot using the Perfect Polka Dots Embossing Folder.  The background strip is from the coordinating DSP called "Sweet Shop".  I also added a Calypso Coral Designer Printed Brad and some 1/8" Organdy Ribbon (appearing soon in the SAB Mini).  Last, I topped the frosting off with some Dazzling Diamond glitter.

Good & Plenty

Don't these colors remind you of Good & Plenty candy?  I made this wall hanging to match the other quilt (see here) in my guest room.  It's called the Mini Bulls-Eye Quilt and I had "sew" much fun making it.  Check back Friday--I hope to have a new card posted.

Happy 2012!

I wish I had something profound to post for this new year, but am instead sharing my most recent endeavor.  Don't we all get the organizational itch come January 1?  I have SO much fabric that my cupboards were overflowing.  I decided to sort it by colors and put it in these drawers from Target.  I typed the labels on Daffodil Delight card stock (shocker), punched them out with a circle punch, and clipped them on the handles with clothespins.  This also makes a nice unclipping-and-hiding-the-labels-and-clothespins activity for two little boys that shall remain nameless.
